10 Tips To Cutting Your RV Travel Expenses

Being frugal can save your RV travel budget. RV travel is among the least expensive types of vacations. These 10 tips show you how to make your RVing even less costly.

1.    Buy a frugal RV. You don't need a big luxury RV. You'll have just as much fun in an inexpensive used rig or a good value new recreational vehicle. For more information see: How to Buy a New RV - How to Buy a Used RV - Which RV is Right For You?

2.    Travel during the off-season for pre and post season discounts. Campgrounds & RV parks, theme parks, and other attractions routinely have lower prices off season.

3.    Skip the commercial campgrounds when looking for places to stay. Find low cost RV sites in city, county, state, or federal camping areas.

4.    Park for Free! There are many places where you can park overnight and even many days for free. For more information see: RV Camping at Wal-Mart and other places - RV Boondocking America - RV Camping on BLM Land - RV Camping at Casinos

5.    Stay longer. Many campgrounds and RV parks offer significant discounts for longer stays.

6.    Be frugal when eating out. Eating out can be fun part of your frugal RV travel but look for 2-for-1 coupons and early bird specials. Consider eating out at lunch instead of dinner. Skip large chain restaurants in favor of small diners. Check out our recipe of the month, and submit yours!

7.    Take advantage of regional bargains. Each area of the country has bargains you can take advantage of as you are RVing.

8.    Don’t buy all of your groceries at supermarkets. Buy food and other necessities at thrift bakeries, discount stores, dollar stores, church and charity bazaars, flea markets, roadside veggie stands, canning plants, and u-pick orchards.

9.    Do Your Own RV Maintenance. There are many web sites with useful repair advice and several good books that explain how to do much of the care and maintenance required. And you can get advice form fellow RVers on forums and email groups.

10.    Let Your RV Travel Pay for Itself. There are literally thousands of ways RVers can earn money as they travel. Stay tuned for "Working on the Road While Traveling in Your RV"

Five Reasons you Should Visit Oregon

Five Reasons for a RV Trip to Oregon

1. Beautiful Oregon RV Campgrounds
A quick Internet search for “Oregon RV parks”or take a look at our page "oregon rv parks and campgrounds" shows many RV parks and campgrounds within a couple hours drive of Portland, while Bend and Medford have amazing campgrounds in their own right. Our rv parks page will also show you pricing for a stay that will fit any budget. Amenties are also included to allow you to get the best value for your camping lifestyle.
2. Oregon's Coast
The best place to camp in Oregon is definitely the Oregon Coast, the scenic beauty along highway 101 alone is enough to make the 2 hour drive from Portland to reach the Northern tip of the Oregon Coast in Historic Astoria, Oregon. Take a look at our website for a Road Trip that will bring you along Highway 101 from Astoria to Brookings, Oregon the southern most town along Highway 101 in Oregon.
Unlike many Coastal States, Oregon's coastal towns are small and quaint. Considered by many, Seaside, Oregon would be considered the largest town along the coast, or at least the most tourist friendly as it has many hotels, rv parks, campgrounds along with activities and festivals year round, including kite festivals, arcades, deep sea fishing, aquarium and many other family friendly activities.
3. Mount Hood for the true camping experience
We will not get into a rant about why to visit Mount Hood, but for RVers, Campers, and scenic lovers, the lists are endless, so let's go over a quick run down on why you need to visit.
  • Run your fingers across the top of  90 acres of tulips at the month-long, Wooden Shoe Festival. Rumor has it is that you should take the back roads through Monitor and spend your time taking photos instead of sitting in traffic.
  • Choose from more than 40 campgrounds to pitch your tent or park your RV
  • Amazing Fishing: Our lakes, rivers and streams are teeming with salmon, winter steelhead, trout and small mouth bass. Imagine yourself waist-deep in one of our crystal clear mountain streams fly fishing for trout, or drift boating the Clackamas River for winter steelhead.
4. Portland, Oregon
Even if you are coming to Oregon as an RVer, or wanting to enjoy the scenic beauty, a visit to Portland is a definite must. Starting with the famous Rose Gardens, down to the neighboring Japanese Garden's, to the darker history of Portland with the Shanghai Tunnels. Portland has something for everyone, not to mention the amazing restaurants.
